Dominican Sun Pool

Room to Roam, and a Seat at Every End

The Dominican by Sun Pools is a large fiberglass pool that gives a growing family space to spread out and places to settle in. Sun Pools calls it a “popular design” and describes it this way: “a sloped 3′-7′ water depth, large interior room, plantation steps with seating in the shallow end and two corner swim outs in the deep end.” At 15′ x 35′, the Dominican gives Northeast Ohio families comfortable wading water, deep swimming water, and built in spots to sit and talk at both ends of the pool. It is the kind of pool where the parents are in the water too.

What Is the Dominican Pool?

The Dominican comes in a single size from Sun Pools: 15′ x 35′, sloping from 3′ to 7′. Sun files it with its Large Pools, and Sun lists both figures as approximate maximum available dimensions.

Four features define it. The slope from 3′ to 7′ puts wading water and deeper swimming water in the same shell. The large interior room keeps the middle open for games and laps. Plantation steps with seating at the shallow end double as the way in and a place to perch. And two corner swim outs in the deep end let swimmers rest out in the deeper water instead of heading back to the steps. Sun invites you to “play all day on the comfortable nonskid bottom,” and it builds the shell with its critical point lamination system, which it says delivers “the toughest pools on the market.” The Dominican’s step and seating layout is confirmed from Sun Pools’ drawings during your consultation.

What the Dominican Pool Is Not

The Dominican is not a compact pool, and it is not Sun’s largest. The Catalina shares its 3′ to 7′ depth in a smaller 14′ x 32′ rectangle, and the Havana, at 16′ x 40′ with a 3′ to 8′ depth, and the Tropic, at 16′ x 42′ with a 3′ to 6′ depth, are both bigger. At 15′ x 35′, the Dominican gives you real room without asking for the biggest yard on the block.

The Dominican is also not the deepest pool Sun makes. If water that reaches 8′ or more is a priority, the Havana, at 3′ to 8′, and the St. Croix, at 15′ x 40′ with a 3′ to 8’4″ depth, are the models to look at. The Dominican’s 3′ to 7′ depth is the sweet spot for families who want a genuine deep end alongside wading water. And if you want a spa in the plan, Sun Pools lists a separate model, the Dominican with Spa, also at 15′ x 35′ and 3′ to 7′.

Why Sun Pools?

Sun Pools has hand crafted pools from American made composite materials since 1995, and every Dominican shell leaves its plant in Albany, Kentucky, a site Sun describes as an EPA approved Title V facility. A 35′ shell with seating built into both ends leans on three parts of Sun’s construction:

  • Fabric cut for this model: Sun hand cuts sheet fabric for each design and lays it across the shell side to side, the way a high end yacht is built. Sun calls the method critical point lamination.
  • Ribs and coping built in: The one-piece shell is finished in a modified epoxy skin-coat resin, with structural ribs and a reinforced coping built into it.
  • No spreader bar on delivery day: Sun says the lamination lets the shell carry itself, so neither a spreader bar nor a belly band is needed to lift the Dominican into place.

Under the finish, Sun uses high grade marine FRP resin with no resin fillers, and its 4 solid marine color finishes have no clear coat that could yellow or fog. The floor and steps get Sun’s non-skid textured bottom, so the grip carries from the plantation steps down the slope toward the deep end.

Why Fiberglass, and Why the Dominican?

Instead of weeks of forming and finishing in your yard, the Dominican leaves Sun’s factory as a completed fiberglass shell, ready to set, which Sun says saves weeks of construction time. Sun says its surface won’t need to be replaced like a vinyl liner pool or acid washed or re-coated like a concrete pool. Sun adds that the smooth surface will not snag swimsuits or skin and needs minimum chemical treatment. Across a Northeast Ohio season of roughly mid-May through September, that adds up to more swimming and less scrubbing.

The case for the Dominican specifically is the way it spreads its seating across the pool. Plantation steps with seating at the shallow end and two corner swim outs at the deep end mean people can sit and gather at both ends, not just crowd the steps. The 3′ to 7′ slope covers both wading and deep swimming, and the large interior room leaves the middle open for play. All of it is part of the one-piece shell, in a 15′ x 35′ size that fits a large family without demanding the biggest yard.

Dominican Pool FAQs

What size is the Dominican, and what does a sloped 3' to 7' depth mean?

The Dominican measures 15′ x 35′, and Sun describes “a sloped 3′-7′ water depth.” Picture the floor running downhill from 3′ of water beside the plantation steps to 7′ of water where the two corner swim outs sit. Waders have their end, stronger swimmers have theirs, and the whole family shares one pool. Deep water always calls for an adult on supervision duty and clear family rules.

What do the plantation steps with seating add?

Sun Pools lists “plantation steps with seating in the shallow end” on the Dominican. The steps are how most people will get in, and the seating turns that same end of the pool into a place to sit in the water, keep an eye on the kids, and talk. The Dominican’s step and seating layout is confirmed from Sun Pools’ drawings during your consultation.

What are the two corner swim outs?

Sun lists “two corner swim outs in the deep end.” A swim out is a built in ledge where a swimmer can sit or rest while still in deeper water. Because the Dominican has one in each deep end corner, the far end of the pool becomes a second gathering spot, and a tired swimmer has a place to pause without crossing back to the steps.

Should I choose the Dominican or the Catalina?

The two share a 3′ to 7′ slope, so the choice comes down to room and seating. The Dominican adds a foot of width and 3′ of length at 15′ x 35′, and it puts its deep end seating in two separate corner swim outs, with plantation steps and seating up front. The Catalina, at 14′ x 32′, is Sun Pools’ self-described “#1 selling rectangle design,” with shallow end steps with seats on each side and one large deep-end swim out ledge. More space and two corner perches point to the Dominican. A tighter yard and a straight rectangle point to the Catalina.

How is the Dominican different from the Dominican with Spa?

Both carry the same listing of 15′ x 35′ and 3′ to 7′. The Dominican with Spa, as its name says, brings a spa into the design. Its step and seating layout, and the spa’s size, shape, and placement, are confirmed from Sun Pools’ drawings during your consultation, so we can lay the two models side by side if you are weighing a spa.

Can I put an automatic cover on the Dominican?

Automatic cover compatibility is not listed on Sun Pools’ Dominican model page. Ohio Paradise Pools confirms cover options with you during design, and since an Ohio pool spends more than half the year closed, we talk through covers for a 15′ x 35′ pool early in the plan.

How long does it take to install a Dominican pool?

Because the Dominican shows up as one finished piece, most projects run approximately 2 to 3 weeks, covering excavation, setting the shell, plumbing and electrical work, and initial finishing. Permitting, site access, weather, and how much decking you want can all move that timeline. Ohio Paradise Pools runs the entire job, keeps you updated as it goes, and offers FaceTime walk-throughs when you are away. Two pool school visits wrap up the project.

What warranty does the Dominican pool carry?

Your Dominican shell is covered by Sun Pools’ Lifetime Structural Pool Shell Warranty. Sun warrants the interior surface for 3 years, and the warranty can be transferred within the first 36 months. Its terms are set by the Sun Pools Inc. Shell Warranty Certificate that ships with the pool, and coverage depends on registration with Sun Pools’ corporate office, so file it soon after the pool is in. Here in Ohio, you also have our team behind you: over 32 years in business, a BBB A+ rating, and Cleveland’s swimming pool contractor of the year in 2022, 2023, and 2024.

What does day-to-day maintenance look like for a Dominican pool?

Sun says the smooth interior requires minimal chemical treatment, and that it won’t need to be replaced like a vinyl liner or acid-washed and re-coated like concrete. Week to week, a Dominican owner tests and balances the water, lets the filtration system run, and skims or vacuums, including around the steps and swim outs. Each spring you open the pool, and each fall you close it. Pool school walks your family through all of it, so you know what you can handle and when to give us a call.
