The St. Lucia by Sun Pools is a free-form fiberglass pool that Sun Pools calls “one of our top selling models.” At 15′ x 37′ with a depth of 3′ to 6′, it pairs an 18″ built in waterfall in the deep-end seating area with a large wrap around shallow end seat, wide wedding cake steps, and the walk around safety ledge Sun Pools calls “popular.” Sun Pools says its free form lines “allow for unlimited design possibilities for your pool area.” This is the pool for the Northeast Ohio family that wants the sound of falling water, a place for everyone to sit, and a backyard that feels like a getaway from mid-May through September.

A Waterfall, a Wedding Cake Entry, and Room for Everyone
What Is the St. Lucia Pool?
The St. Lucia is a free-form fiberglass pool available in one size: 15′ x 37′ with a depth of 3′ to 6′. Sun Pools lists these as approximate maximum available dimensions, and it lists the St. Lucia among its Large Pools.
Sun Pools lists a full set of features for this model. Wide wedding cake steps give the family an easy way into the water, and a large wrap around shallow end seat gives family and friends a place to sit together in the shallow end. At the other end, an 18″ built in waterfall is set in the deep-end seating area, so the spot where you sit and relax is also where the water falls. The walk around safety ledge rounds out the layout, and the floor carries Sun Pools’ comfortable non-skid bottom. Sun Pools describes the depth as a comfortable 3′ to 6′. The shell is hand crafted using Sun Pools’ critical point lamination system, which Sun Pools says delivers “the toughest pool on the market.”
What the St. Lucia Pool Is Not
The St. Lucia is not a compact pool. At 15′ x 37′, it is larger than Sun Pools’ Grand Cayman and Montego Bay, and it needs a yard that can accommodate it. If your space is tighter, Sun Pools calls the Montego Bay “the little brother of the popular St. Lucia.” The Montego Bay is 11′ x 26′ with a depth of 3′ to 5′, and Sun Pools lists it with a deep end tanning ledge and a 12″ standard waterfall. For a medium free-form option, the Grand Cayman is 14′ x 32′ with a depth of 3′ to 6′.
The St. Lucia is also not Sun Pools’ deepest or longest model. Its 3′ to 6′ range is built for comfortable family swimming, not maximum depth. If you want deeper water, Sun Pools builds the Havana at 16′ x 40′ with a depth of 3′ to 8′, and the St. Croix at 15′ x 40′ with a depth of 3′ to 8’4″. If sheer size is the priority, the Tropic runs 16′ x 42′ with a depth of 3′ to 6′. What the St. Lucia offers that those models do not is its combination of free form lines, a built in waterfall, and wedding cake steps in one shell.
Why Sun Pools?
Big features call for a strong shell. Sun Pools, which began hand crafting pools from American made composite materials in 1995, builds the St. Lucia at its Albany, Kentucky plant, an EPA approved Title V facility that Sun says uses state of the art technology. Sun now offers over 30 pool and spa designs in 4 color finishes and names Ohio among the states it serves.
Points that matter on a 15′ x 37′ shell with a built in waterfall:
- Laminated across, not along: Sun’s critical point lamination uses sheet fabric hand cut for each model, placed across the shell from side to side like a high end yacht, instead of bulk glass end to end or sprayed chop glass. Sun says that lets the shell support itself, so even a Large Pool like the St. Lucia is handled and placed without a spreader bar or belly band.
- A stiffened rim: This one-piece shell is finished in modified epoxy skin-coat resin and supported by structural ribs plus a reinforced coping around its edge.
- Marine-grade materials throughout: Sun works with high grade marine FRP resin and no resin fillers, and its 4 solid color choices are high grade marine finishes rather than a clear coat that can yellow or fog.
Each tier of the wedding cake entry, and the floor beyond it, has Sun’s non-skid textured bottom.
Why Fiberglass, and Why the St. Lucia?
Built in concrete, a pool this size would mean weeks of forming and finishing in your yard, and a vinyl version would mean a liner to replace down the road. Sun Pools builds the St. Lucia in its factory instead, and it arrives as a finished shell ready to install, which Sun says saves weeks of construction time. Sun says its surface won’t need to be replaced like a vinyl liner or acid washed or re-coated like a concrete pool. Sun calls it a smooth, comfortable interior that won’t snag your swimsuit or skin and needs minimum chemical treatment. Across a Northeast Ohio swim season of roughly mid-May through September, the time you save goes to the waterfall, not the work.
The case for the St. Lucia specifically is that the features you would normally add later come built into the design. The waterfall, the wrap around seat, the wedding cake steps, and the walk around safety ledge are all on Sun’s feature list for the St. Lucia, so the pool arrives with its gathering spots already in place. The shallow end seat is where parents can sit and supervise, and the deep-end seating area with its waterfall gives the adults their own place to unwind. Sun Pools’ free form lines leave you free to shape the patio, landscaping, and outdoor living space around the pool however you like.

St. Lucia Pool FAQs
What is the St. Lucia's size, and what does a 3' to 6' depth mean in practice?
There is a single size, 15′ x 37′, with water from 3′ to 6′, listed by Sun Pools as approximate maximum available dimensions. Sun calls that a comfortable 3′ to 6′ water depth. The shallow end holds the large wrap around seat for relaxing and conversation, while the waterfall sits in the deep-end seating area, so both ends give people somewhere to sit and the water between them is open for play and swimming. As in every pool, have an adult supervising when children swim.
What are wedding cake steps?
Wedding cake steps are a stacked, tiered style of entry steps, named for the way each step sits on the one below it like the layers of a cake. Sun Pools describes the St. Lucia’s steps as wide wedding cake steps. A wide, tiered entry gives the family an easy, comfortable way into the pool. Like the pool floor, Sun Pools’ steps carry a non-skid textured bottom. The exact step layout is confirmed from Sun Pools’ drawings during your consultation.
How does the built in waterfall work?
Sun Pools lists an 18″ built in waterfall in the St. Lucia’s deep-end seating area. That places the sound and movement of falling water right where you sit and relax. The waterfall’s plumbing, pump, and controls are planned with you during design, and the specifics are confirmed from Sun Pools at your consultation.
How does the St. Lucia compare with the Montego Bay?
Sun Pools calls the Montego Bay “the little brother of the popular St. Lucia.” The Montego Bay is 11′ x 26′ with a depth of 3′ to 5′, and Sun Pools lists it with a deep end tanning ledge, a 12″ standard waterfall, large steps, and a wrap-around shallow end seat. The St. Lucia is 15′ x 37′ with a depth of 3′ to 6′, with an 18″ built in waterfall, wide wedding cake steps, a large wrap around shallow end seat, and a walk around safety ledge. If your yard can take the larger footprint, the St. Lucia gives you more water, more depth, and a larger waterfall. If space is limited, the Montego Bay brings a similar spirit to a smaller yard.
How does the St. Lucia compare with the Grand Cayman?
Both are free-form Sun Pools designs with a depth of 3′ to 6′. The Grand Cayman is 14′ x 32′ and Sun Pools lists it among its Medium Pools, with a nonslip walk around safety ledge, built in steps, and seating areas at the front and rear. The St. Lucia is 15′ x 37′ and Sun Pools lists it among its Large Pools, adding an 18″ built in waterfall and wide wedding cake steps. If you want the waterfall and the larger footprint, the St. Lucia is the step up.
What does “unlimited design possibilities” mean for my yard?
That phrase is Sun Pools’ own description of the St. Lucia’s free form lines. A free-form shape does not demand the straight, formal edges a rectangle does, so it can sit comfortably beside curved patios, gardens, and natural landscaping. When we design your project, we plan the decking, landscaping, and outdoor living space around the St. Lucia’s curves so the whole backyard feels finished.
Can I add an automatic cover to the St. Lucia?
Sun Pools’ St. Lucia page does not list automatic cover compatibility. Ohio Paradise Pools confirms the cover options for this free form shell during design, so you know what will work before anything is ordered. Through an Ohio fall and winter, a well chosen cover keeps leaves and debris out of the water until opening day.
How long does it take to install a St. Lucia pool?
Even at 15′ x 37′, the St. Lucia leaves Sun’s factory as a single finished shell, so the job at your house is about excavation and connections rather than building a pool from scratch. Figure on approximately 2 to 3 weeks for most projects, from digging through setting the shell, plumbing, electrical, and initial finishing. Permitting, yard access for delivery, weather, and decking scope all affect the schedule. We run the whole project, share regular updates and FaceTime walk-throughs, and close out with our two pool school visits.
What warranty does the St. Lucia pool carry?
For structure, Sun Pools gives the St. Lucia a Lifetime Structural Pool Shell Warranty. For the interior surface, there is a 3 year warranty. The warranty is transferable within the first 36 months, follows the terms of the Sun Pools Inc. Shell Warranty Certificate included with your pool, and requires registration with the Sun Pools corporate office. Here in Northeast Ohio, Ohio Paradise Pools adds over 32 years of local experience, a BBB A+ rating, and the title of Cleveland’s swimming pool contractor of the year for 2022, 2023, and 2024.
