The Freeport Oasis by Sun Pools is a fiberglass pool built around one idea: not everyone in the backyard wants to be in deep water. Sun Pools explains the model simply: “We added a tanning ledge (Oasis) to our top selling 12′ x 24′ model.” The manufacturer calls the ledge “a great way to enjoy the pool, but in shallower water” and “the perfect spot for tanning, small children and pets!” Around that ledge you still get a large step area in the shallow end, two corner end seats in the deep end, and a 3′ to 5′ depth, so the swimmers and the sunbathers can share one compact pool.

What Is the Freeport Oasis Pool?
Sun Pools lists the Freeport Oasis among its small pools, at 12′ x 24′ with a depth of 3′ to 5′. Like every Sun model, those are approximate maximum available dimensions.
The manufacturer names three features. First is the built in tanning ledge, the shallow shelf that gives the Oasis its name. Second, Sun lists a large step area in the shallow end for easy entry. Third, two corner end seats wait in the deep end for swimmers who want a break. Underfoot, Sun Pools specifies its comfortable non-skid bottom, and the shell is hand crafted using critical point lamination, a system Sun says produces “the toughest pools on the market.”
What the Freeport Oasis Pool Is Not
The Oasis is not a new size. It shares the 12′ x 24′ footprint and 3′ to 5′ depth of the standard Freeport. What changes is the purpose of the space. Where the Freeport page describes a large wrap step area and two corner deep end swim ledges, the Oasis page describes a large step area, two corner end seats, and the tanning ledge. Choose the Oasis when shallow lounging space is on your wish list.
It is also not a big pool for serious swimming. For more length and depth in a model that also has a tanning ledge, Sun lists the Tahiti at 14′ x 35′ with 3′ to 6′ and the St. John at 14′ x 30′ with 3′ to 5’9″. The Oasis brings the ledge idea to a compact 12′ x 24′ shell.
Why Sun Pools?
A shell with a shelf of shallow water, a step area, and two seats has a lot of shape in it, and that is where Sun’s construction earns its keep. Since 1995 the company has hand crafted its pools from American made composite materials, and it builds every one at its Albany, Kentucky plant, an EPA approved Title V facility.
- Critical point lamination: workers lay hand cut sheet fabric, cut for each swimming pool model, across the shell side to side, the method Sun compares to building a high end yacht.
- Skin-coat, ribs, and coping: a modified epoxy skin-coat resin finishes the surface, while structural ribs and a reinforced coping stiffen the shell.
Sun uses high grade marine FRP resin with no resin fillers, offers 4 solid marine color finishes without a clear coat, and says its shells support themselves, with no spreader bar or belly band required during placement. On the Oasis, the non-skid textured bottom covers the floor and the steps.
Why Fiberglass, and Why the Freeport Oasis?
With fiberglass, most of the pool is already done when it reaches your street. Sun Pools builds each shell in its factory and ships it finished, saving weeks of construction time compared with forming a pool on site. The company says the surface won’t need to be replaced like a vinyl liner or acid washed or re-coated like concrete, and calls for minimum chemical treatment.
The Oasis adds a second reason: it gives the non-swimmers a place to be. A tanning ledge is where a parent can sit in shallower water beside a small child, where someone can read in the sun with their feet wet, and, as Sun Pools points out, where pets can enjoy the pool too. Everyone still needs watching around water, but the ledge means the quieter crowd is not stuck on the deck while the swimmers use the 5′ end.
Ready to Bring the Oasis Home?
For more than 32 years, Ohio Paradise Pools has helped Northeast Ohio families plan pools around the way they actually spend a summer day. With the Oasis, that usually starts with a question: where does the tanning ledge get the most afternoon sun in your yard? As a family-owned, full-service builder, we handle that planning plus excavation, shell placement, plumbing, electrical, and decking, and FaceTime check-ins keep you in the loop on the days you cannot stop by.
Our two-visit pool school finishes the job. We show you how the filtration runs, how to keep the water balanced, and how to open and close for the season, so the ledge is ready for the first warm weekend.

Freeport Oasis Pool FAQs
What is a tanning ledge?
It is a built in shelf inside the pool that holds shallower water than the rest of the shell. Instead of standing or swimming, you sit or recline on it with the water around you. Sun Pools describes the Oasis ledge as “a great way to enjoy the pool, but in shallower water.”
Is the tanning ledge good for small children and pets?
Sun Pools calls it “the perfect spot for tanning, small children and pets.” Shallower water gives little ones and four-legged family members their own spot in the pool. Shallow water still calls for supervision, so an adult should always be watching, and Ohio Paradise Pools can talk through how the ledge fits your family’s routine.
Where is the tanning ledge placed in the Oasis?
Sun Pools confirms that the Oasis has a built in tanning ledge along with a large step area in the shallow end and two corner end seats in the deep end. We review the exact ledge position and shape with you from Sun Pools’ drawings during your consultation, so you can plan chairs, shade, and sun angles around it.
How does the Oasis compare with the original Freeport?
Same 12′ x 24′ listed size and 3′ to 5′ depth. Sun Pools calls the Freeport its top selling 12′ x 24′ model and describes a wrap step area and two corner deep end swim ledges. The Oasis takes that model and adds the tanning ledge, and Sun describes its step area and two corner end seats in the deep end. Pick the Freeport for a pool mainly used for swimming and play, and the Oasis for mixed swimming and lounging.
Are there other Sun Pools models with a tanning ledge?
Yes. The Montego Bay, listed at 11′ x 26′ with 3′ to 5′, has a deep end tanning ledge with a 12″ standard waterfall. The St. John (14′ x 30′, 3′ to 5’9″) and the Tahiti (14′ x 35′, 3′ to 6′) also include a tanning ledge. The Oasis is the 12′ x 24′ way to get one.
What should I know about covers for the Oasis?
Sun Pools’ Freeport Oasis model page does not list automatic cover compatibility. Outside Ohio’s swim season, which runs roughly mid-May through September, the pool sits closed, so plan the cover along with the shell. Ohio Paradise Pools confirms which cover options suit the Oasis during design.
What does installing a Freeport Oasis involve?
The shell, ledge included, arrives as one finished piece from Sun Pools. From there, most projects take approximately 2 to 3 weeks: excavation, setting the shell, running plumbing and electrical, and the initial finishing. Permitting, how easily equipment can reach your yard, rain, and the size of your deck all affect the timeline. We manage every step, send regular updates, walk you through progress on FaceTime, and finish with two pool school visits.
How is the Freeport Oasis warrantied?
Sun Pools stands behind the shell with its Lifetime Structural Pool Shell Warranty, and it gives the interior surface a 3 year warranty. If you sell the home within the first 36 months, the warranty can transfer. Everything runs under the Sun Pools Inc. Shell Warranty Certificate included with the pool, and it depends on registration with the Sun Pools corporate office. Ohio Paradise Pools adds local accountability: over 32 years in business, a BBB A+ rating, and recognition as Cleveland’s swimming pool contractor of the year in 2022, 2023, and 2024.
Does the tanning ledge make maintenance harder?
Care for the Oasis looks like care for any Sun pool: test the water, keep it balanced, run the filter, and skim or brush as needed, ledge included. Sun Pools says its smooth surface requires minimum chemical treatment and will not need a replacement liner or an acid wash. Pool school shows you the routine hands-on.
