Grand Cayman Sun Pool

The Free-Form Pool Built for Family Time

The Grand Cayman by Sun Pools is a free-form fiberglass pool that Sun Pools places in its “free-form fiberglass medium pool line,” and it is the model Sun Pools itself points to as a best seller. On its Nassau page, Sun Pools calls this design “our #1 selling Grand Cayman model.” At 14′ x 32′ with a depth range of 3′ to 6′, the Grand Cayman pairs a nonslip walk around safety ledge and built in steps with seating areas at the front and rear, which Sun Pools says are “spaciously designed for comfortable relaxation while you spend time with family and friends.” Sun Pools sums up the promise simply: “Our fiberglass pools offer cost effective family fun.” This is the pool for the Northeast Ohio family that wants soft, natural lines, a place for everyone to sit, and a backyard that feels like the best part of summer.

What Is the Grand Cayman Pool?

The Grand Cayman is a free-form fiberglass pool available in one size: 14′ x 32′ with a depth of 3′ to 6′. Sun Pools lists these as approximate maximum available dimensions, and it lists the Grand Cayman among its Medium Pools.

Sun Pools lists these features for this model. A nonslip walk around safety ledge is part of the design, built in steps give the family a comfortable way in and out, and seating areas at the front and rear give swimmers two separate places to settle in and relax. Sun Pools describes those seating areas as spaciously designed for comfortable relaxation with family and friends, so one group can sit and talk at one end while another gathers at the other. The free-form shape keeps the lines soft and natural, which suits a yard with gardens, curved patios, or a more relaxed landscape. Sun Pools also notes that its non-slip smooth surface “saves on chemicals, cleaning and energy,” and the shell is hand crafted using the company’s critical point lamination system.

What the Grand Cayman Pool Is Not

The Grand Cayman is not a rectangle, and it is not Sun Pools’ deepest design. If you want straight lines in the same footprint, the Catalina is also 14′ x 32′, and Sun Pools calls it “our #1 selling rectangle design,” with a depth of 3′ to 7′. If you need deeper water than 6′, Sun Pools builds models such as the Havana at 16′ x 40′ with a depth of 3′ to 8′. The Grand Cayman’s 3′ to 6′ range is built for families who want comfortable, play-friendly water rather than maximum depth.

The Grand Cayman is also not the smallest version of this design, and it is not the largest free-form in the lineup. Sun Pools describes the Nassau, at 12′ x 25′ with a depth of 3′ to 5′, as “the shrunk down version of our #1 selling Grand Cayman model,” so households with a tighter yard can keep the same idea in a smaller shell. At the other end, the St. Lucia runs 15′ x 37′ with a depth of 3′ to 6′. What the Grand Cayman delivers is the middle ground: a medium free-form pool with seating at both ends that fits a wide range of Northeast Ohio yards.

Why Sun Pools?

The Grand Cayman comes out of the Sun Pools plant in Albany, Kentucky, an EPA approved Title V facility that the company says runs on state of the art technology. Sun Pools has been hand crafting pools from American made composite materials since 1995, and it now offers more than 30 pool and spa designs in 4 color finishes, with Ohio on its list of states served.

Three details of how a 14′ x 32′ free-form shell like this one is made:

  • Hand cut fabric laid side to side: Sun’s critical point lamination places sheet fabric, hand cut for each model, across the shell from one side to the other, the way a high end yacht is built. Sun contrasts that with bulk glass run end to end or sprayed chop glass, and says the method lets the Grand Cayman carry its own weight on delivery day, with no spreader bar or belly band needed to lift it into place.
  • A reinforced top edge: The one-piece shell is stiffened by structural ribs and a reinforced coping, and its interior is finished in a modified epoxy skin-coat resin.
  • Color that stays put: Rather than a clear coat that can yellow or fog, Sun offers 4 solid marine color finishes with a proven track record, laid over high grade marine FRP resin with no resin fillers.

Underfoot, from the built in steps out across the floor, the Grand Cayman has Sun’s non-skid textured bottom.

Why Fiberglass, and Why the Grand Cayman?

Concrete pools are formed on site over weeks, and vinyl pools depend on a liner that eventually wears out. The Grand Cayman avoids both. Sun Pools builds it in the factory, and the shell reaches your yard finished and ready to set, which Sun says saves weeks of construction time. Sun says its interior won’t need to be replaced like a vinyl liner or acid washed or re-coated like concrete, and Sun describes it as a smooth, comfortable surface that won’t snag a swimsuit or skin and needs minimum chemical treatment. In a Northeast Ohio season that runs from about mid-May through September, those saved weeks and skipped chores turn into family time in the water.

The case for the Grand Cayman specifically comes down to shape and seating. A free-form pool with seating at both the front and rear gives a busy household two natural gathering spots, so parents supervising from the water and kids playing between the seating areas can all share the same pool without crowding the steps. The 3′ to 6′ depth range gives the family room to play at the shallow end of that range and more water at the other.

Grand Cayman Pool FAQs

What is the Grand Cayman's size, and what does a 3' to 6' depth mean in practice?

The Grand Cayman is offered in a single size, 14′ x 32′, with water running from 3′ to 6′. Sun Pools gives those as approximate maximum available dimensions. The shallower part of that range suits games and easing in, and the 6′ end gives stronger swimmers more room. Where the floor changes depth is shown on Sun Pools’ drawings, which we review with you at your consultation. Whenever children are swimming, an adult should be watching.

What features come built into the Grand Cayman?

Sun Pools lists a nonslip walk around safety ledge, built in steps, and seating areas at the front and rear of the pool. Sun Pools says the seating areas are spaciously designed for comfortable relaxation while you spend time with family and friends. The pool floor and steps carry Sun Pools’ non-skid textured bottom, and Sun Pools says its non-slip smooth surface saves on chemicals, cleaning, and energy. Additions such as lighting or tile are options we plan with you during design.

How does the Grand Cayman compare with the Nassau?

Sun Pools describes the Nassau as the shrunk down version of the Grand Cayman. The Nassau is 12′ x 25′ with a depth of 3′ to 5′, while the Grand Cayman is 14′ x 32′ with a depth of 3′ to 6′. That makes the Grand Cayman both larger and deeper at its deepest point. If your yard can take the larger footprint, the Grand Cayman gives your family more water and more room to spread out. If space is tight, the Nassau keeps the free-form idea in a smaller shell. We can lay both footprints out on your property during a site visit so you can see the difference in person.

How does the Grand Cayman compare with other 14' x 32' Sun Pools models?

Two other Sun Pools models share the 14′ x 32′ size. The Catalina is a rectangle that Sun Pools calls its #1 selling rectangle design, with a depth of 3′ to 7′. The Cayman is listed at 14′ x 32′ with a listed depth of 4′ 6″. The Grand Cayman stands apart with its free-form shape, its 3′ to 6′ depth, and its seating areas at the front and rear. If you love straight lines, the Catalina is worth a look. If you want curves and seating at both ends, the Grand Cayman is the one.

Can I add an automatic cover to the Grand Cayman?

The Grand Cayman’s model page on the Sun Pools site does not list automatic cover compatibility. During design, Ohio Paradise Pools confirms which cover options will work on this free-form shell before anything is ordered. An Ohio pool sits closed from roughly October to mid-May, so picking a cover that keeps leaves and debris out is part of how we plan your project.

How long does it take to install a Grand Cayman pool?

Because the shell leaves Sun’s factory as one finished piece, the work at your home centers on the ground and the connections. For a typical Grand Cayman, expect approximately 2 to 3 weeks from the first dig to a placed, plumbed, and wired pool with its initial finishing done. Permits, how easily equipment can reach your yard, Ohio weather, and how much decking you want can all move that timeline. Our crew runs the entire job, keeps you posted with regular updates and FaceTime walk-throughs, and wraps up with two pool school visits.

What warranty does the Grand Cayman pool carry?

Sun Pools covers the Grand Cayman’s shell under its Lifetime Structural Pool Shell Warranty, and the interior surface has a 3 year warranty. That coverage can be transferred during the first 36 months. The Sun Pools Inc. Shell Warranty Certificate that ships with the pool sets the terms, and the warranty depends on registration with Sun Pools’ corporate office. Close to home, you also have Ohio Paradise Pools behind you: more than 32 years in business, a BBB A+ rating, and three years running, 2022, 2023, and 2024, named Cleveland’s swimming pool contractor of the year.

What does day-to-day maintenance look like for a Grand Cayman pool?

Less than you might expect. Sun Pools says the Grand Cayman’s non-slip smooth surface saves on chemicals, cleaning, and energy, and that its interiors need minimum chemical treatment. With no liner to swap and no concrete surface to acid wash or re-coat, the weekly rhythm is simple: check and balance the water, let the filter run, and skim or vacuum when leaves blow in. For extras, Sun offers inlaid mosaic tile designs, waterline tile trim, built in waterfalls, and color underwater lighting across its line, and we sort out what fits your Grand Cayman while designing it. Pool school covers the whole routine in two visits.
