The Key West by Sun Pools is a compact 9′ x 17′ fiberglass pool with a listed depth of 4′ 6″, made for the moments that fill a Northeast Ohio summer: a cool dip after work, a slow afternoon with a drink in hand, a few friends talking with the water around them. It is one of the smallest pools Sun Pools builds, and one of only a handful listed at a single depth rather than a range. For a household that wants real water in a small yard, the Key West keeps things simple.

A Little Pool for Long, Easy Summer Evenings
What Is the Key West Pool?
The Key West is a fiberglass pool that Sun Pools lists at 9′ x 17′ with a depth of 4′ 6″. Sun describes those numbers as approximate maximum available dimensions, with drawings that are approximate and not to scale.
A 9′ x 17′ footprint and a listed 4′ 6″ depth give the Key West a clear place in the lineup. The Key West sits among Sun’s most compact pools, alongside the Ochos Rios at 8′ x 18′ and 54″ and the Aruba at 8′ x 14′ and 4′. Of those three, the Key West is the widest. A listed depth of 4′ 6″ is a depth where many adults can stand comfortably. Whether that figure holds across the whole floor, and where the entry and any seating fall, is something we go over on Sun Pools’ drawings with you.
What the Key West Pool Is Not
The Key West is not a lap pool or a game pool. At 17 feet long, it is built for cooling off and relaxing, not for swimming lengths. If you want more room at the same listed depth, the Lakeside lists 4’6″ at 12′ x 28′, and the Cayman lists 4′ 6″ at 14′ x 32′.
It is also not a pool with a depth range. If you want a listed range of shallower and deeper water in a compact footprint, the Caladesi lists 3′ to 5′ at 10′ x 20′, a foot wider and 3 feet longer than the Key West.
Why Sun Pools?
A small pool is still a Sun Pool. The company has hand crafted pools from American made composite materials since 1995, and the Key West comes out of the same Albany, Kentucky plant, an EPA approved Title V facility, as Sun’s largest models.
Small shell, same construction. Three points that stand out on the Key West:
- Yacht-style lamination: Sun hand cuts sheet fabric for each model and lays the structural material crosswise, side to side, the way a high end yacht is laminated. Sun calls it critical point lamination.
- A finished inside and a sturdy edge: The shell gets a modified epoxy skin-coat resin, structural ribs, and a reinforced coping, all built on high grade marine FRP resin with no resin fillers.
- Color that stays put: Instead of a clear coat that Sun says can yellow or fog, the Key West comes in Sun’s 4 solid color choices, high grade marine finishes with what Sun calls a proven track record.
Sun Pools says the floor and steps of its pools feature a non-skid textured bottom.
Why Fiberglass, and Why the Key West?
Fiberglass takes most of the construction out of your backyard. Sun Pools builds the Key West in its factory and delivers it as a finished shell ready to install, which Sun says saves weeks of construction time. Unlike vinyl, there is no liner to replace, and unlike concrete, there is no acid washing or re-coating. Sun describes a smooth interior that won’t snag your swimsuit or skin and requires minimum chemical treatment.
The case for the Key West is about fitting a real pool into a real yard. Plenty of Northeast Ohio lots simply cannot give up the space a full-size pool needs. At 9′ x 17′, the Key West leaves room for a patio, a table, and a garden, and its listed depth of 4′ 6″ makes it more than a splash pad. It is the kind of pool you use a little every day of the season, not just on the weekends you host a crowd.

Key West Pool FAQs
What does a listed depth of 4' 6″ mean on a pool this size?
Sun Pools lists one depth figure for the Key West rather than a range. At 4′ 6″, that is a depth where many adults can stand comfortably, so the pool works for cooling off, relaxing, and talking in the water, not just wading. One listed figure does not prove the floor never changes, so we check the depth layout on Sun Pools’ drawings with you at your consultation.
How is the Key West different from the Ochos Rios?
They are close cousins on paper. The Ochos Rios lists a depth of 54″, which is the same as 4′ 6″, at 8′ x 18′. The Key West is one foot wider and one foot shorter at 9′ x 17′. The choice between them may come down to which proportions suit your yard and how each layout looks when we review Sun Pools’ drawings together.
How does the Key West compare with the Aruba and the Caladesi?
The Aruba is smaller, at 8′ x 14′, with a listed depth of 4′. The Caladesi is larger, at 10′ x 20′, and lists a range of 3′ to 5′. The Key West sits between them in size, with a single listed depth of 4′ 6″. If you want the smallest footprint, look at the Aruba. If you want a range of depth, look at the Caladesi.
What layout options should I ask about?
On a 9′ x 17′ pool, where the entry sits matters. We confirm the Key West’s step and seating layout from Sun Pools’ drawings during your consultation. Sun Pools does not list automatic cover compatibility on the Key West’s model page, so Ohio Paradise Pools confirms cover options during design. Brand-wide, Sun offers options like color underwater lighting, waterline tile trim, and built in waterfalls, which can make a compact pool a real backyard focal point.
How long does it take to install a Key West pool?
The Key West is delivered as a one-piece shell already finished at the factory. Expect approximately 2 to 3 weeks for most installations, covering excavation, shell placement, plumbing, electrical, and initial finishing, with permitting, site access, weather, and decking scope shaping the schedule. We manage the project from start to finish, update you along the way with FaceTime walk-throughs, and close with two pool school visits.
What warranty does the Key West pool carry?
Sun Pools covers its fiberglass pool shells, the Key West among them, with a Lifetime Structural Pool Shell Warranty. For the interior surface, there is a 3 year warranty, and the warranty transfers within the first 36 months. What is covered follows the Sun Pools Inc. Shell Warranty Certificate that arrives with each pool, and registration with Sun Pools’ corporate office is a requirement. On the local side, Ohio Paradise Pools stands behind your pool with over 32 years in business, a BBB A+ rating, and recognition as Cleveland’s swimming pool contractor of the year in 2022, 2023, and 2024.
Is a small pool like the Key West easy to maintain?
The routine is the same as any pool, just on a smaller scale: testing and balancing water chemistry, running the filtration system, and skimming or vacuuming as needed. Less water and less surface mean less time and product. Sun says its smooth interior requires minimum chemical treatment, and our two-visit pool school covers the whole routine, including opening in spring and closing for an Ohio winter.
