Kingston Sun Pool

Roman Style That Packs a Lot Into a Smaller Pool

The Kingston by Sun Pools is a roman style fiberglass pool made for tight lots and classic tastes. Sun Pools says it best: “This model packs a lot of features in a smaller pool.” The manufacturer describes large plantation style steps that wrap the shallow end, “while two swim out seats compliment the deep end corners allowing for a roomy interior.” Add 3′ to 5′ of water over a comfortable non-skid bottom, and a listed 11′ x 20′ footprint turns a modest backyard into a place with real character.

What Is the Kingston Pool?

On Sun Pools’ roster the Kingston is filed with the small pools, at a listed 11′ x 20′ and a depth of 3′ to 5′. Sun describes those as approximate maximum available dimensions.

The shape is roman style, and Sun notes that “the roman style design is the smallest in this series.” The plantation style steps are large and wrap the shallow end, giving you a broad entry. Two swim out seats occupy the deep end corners, a placement Sun says allows for a roomy interior. The floor has Sun’s non-skid bottom, and the shell comes from the company’s critical point lamination system, which Sun credits with building “the toughest pools on the market.”

What the Kingston Pool Is Not

The Kingston is not a pool you choose for length. It is one of the most compact 3′ to 5′ shells Sun Pools lists. For comparison, the Sanibel is listed at 11′ x 23′, the Freeport and Shoreline at 12′ x 24′, and the Montego Bay at 11′ x 26′. The Caladesi, at 10′ x 20′, is narrower still. If you want room for longer swims and a 7′ end, the 14′ x 32′ Catalina is a different class of pool.

What the Kingston is not, either, is bare. Many small pools feel like a box of water. The Kingston brings large plantation style steps at the shallow end and two swim out seats in the deep end corners, so even at 11′ x 20′ there is a design with a recognizable style.

Why Sun Pools?

Behind the Kingston is a manufacturer with a long track record. Sun Pools started hand crafting pools from American made composite materials in 1995, and today its Albany, Kentucky factory runs as an EPA approved Title V facility. For a compact roman shell, these build details stand out:

  • Laminated like a yacht: Sun cuts sheet fabric by hand for each model and places it across the Kingston’s shell from side to side, the critical point lamination method the company likens to high end yacht building.
  • No filler in the resin: Sun specifies high grade marine FRP resin products, and says its exterior shell colors are uniform and not dyed, tinted, or varying from pool to pool.
  • Solid color, no clear coat: the Kingston’s color comes from one of 4 solid marine finishes, not a clear coat that can yellow or fog.

A modified epoxy skin-coat resin, structural ribs, and a reinforced coping complete each shell, and Sun says a spreader bar or belly band is not required to set it. The Kingston’s plantation steps and floor share the non-skid textured bottom.

Why Fiberglass, and Why the Kingston?

On a small lot, a long construction project hurts more, because the whole yard becomes the job site. Fiberglass shortens that. Sun Pools builds the Kingston in its factory and delivers it as a finished shell ready to install, saving weeks of construction time. Afterward, Sun says, the surface will not need replacement like a vinyl liner or acid washing and re-coating like a concrete pool, and it requires minimum chemical treatment.

The Kingston itself makes the case for small done well. At a listed 11′ x 20′, it leaves space for a grill, a table, and some grass in yards where a larger pool would take everything. The roman outline gives the backyard a formal, finished look, with large plantation style steps at the shallow end and two swim out seats in the deep end corners.

Kingston Pool FAQs

How big is the Kingston, really?

Sun Pools lists it at 11′ x 20′ with a 3′ to 5′ water depth, as approximate maximum available dimensions. Sun adds that the roman style design is the smallest in this series. In the water, the plantation steps take up the 3′ end and the two swim out seats sit at the 5′ end, with open water between them. Anyone who is not a confident swimmer should have an adult watching.

What does roman style mean?

It describes the outline of the pool. Sun Pools calls the Kingston “roman style,” a traditional, formal shape that tends to suit homes with a classic look. We show you the Kingston’s exact outline from Sun Pools’ drawings during your consultation so you can picture it next to your house.

What are plantation style steps?

Sun uses the phrase for the Kingston’s large steps that wrap the shallow end. Steps built this way can give more than one person room to get in at once. Ask to see them on the drawing during your design meeting, and think about which side of the house you want them facing.

How do the swim out seats help a small pool?

Sun places two swim out seats in the deep end corners and says this allows for a roomy interior. Tucking the seats into the corners leaves more open water in the middle, and it gives swimmers a place to rest without climbing out.

How does the Kingston compare with other small Sun Pools models?

All of these share a 3′ to 5′ depth. The Caladesi is listed at 10′ x 20′, the Kingston at 11′ x 20′, the Sanibel at 11′ x 23′, the Freeport and Shoreline at 12′ x 24′, and the Montego Bay at 11′ x 26′. The Kingston is the one Sun describes as roman style, with plantation steps and two corner swim out seats.

Will the Kingston fit my lot?

Its listed 11′ x 20′ size is among the smallest in Sun’s 3′ to 5′ range, so it is a natural candidate for compact Northeast Ohio yards. Setbacks, utility lines, access for equipment, and the deck you want all shape the final answer, and we check each of them during a site visit.

Does the Kingston work with an automatic cover?

On the Kingston, Sun Pools does not list automatic cover compatibility. We confirm your cover options during the design phase, which matters in a climate where the swim season runs roughly mid-May through September.

What is the installation timeline?

Plan for approximately 2 to 3 weeks. Because the Kingston arrives finished and in one piece, that window covers excavation, setting the shell, plumbing, electrical, and initial finishing, with permits, yard access, weather, and the size of the deck able to shift it. Ohio Paradise Pools runs the project start to finish, sends regular updates and FaceTime walk-throughs, and closes with two pool school visits.

What warranty covers the Kingston?

Sun Pools covers the shell with a Lifetime Structural Pool Shell Warranty, while the interior surface has a 3 year warranty. The coverage is transferable during the first 36 months, it is governed by the Sun Pools Inc. Shell Warranty Certificate delivered with the pool, and it requires registration with the Sun Pools corporate office. Our part is local support from a company in business over 32 years, rated A+ by the BBB, and honored as Cleveland’s swimming pool contractor of the year in 2022, 2023, and 2024.

Is the Kingston easy to maintain?

A smaller pool means less water to balance and less floor to vacuum. Sun Pools adds that its smooth surface requires minimum chemical treatment and will not need replacing like a liner or acid washing like concrete. Pool school teaches you the testing, filtering, and skimming routine.
