Ochos Rios Sun Pool

Long, Lean, and Made for Everyday Escape

The Ochos Rios by Sun Pools is a slim one-piece fiberglass pool shaped for the yard that has more length than width to spare. Sun Pools lists it at 8′ x 18′ with a depth of 54″, a proportion more than twice as long as it is wide. Set along a fence line or the back of the house, it turns an idle strip of lawn into the place everyone heads after dinner.

What Is the Ochos Rios Pool?

The Ochos Rios is a fiberglass pool from Sun Pools offered in one listed size: 8′ x 18′ with a listed depth of 54″, which is four and a half feet. Sun Pools gives these as approximate maximum available dimensions.

Read the numbers as a shape. At 8′ wide, the pool stays narrow enough to leave a path or a planting bed along each long side. At 18′ long, there is room to stretch out and float from one end toward the other. And 54″ is the deeper of the two depths Sun Pools lists for its 8′-wide pools, compared with the Aruba’s 4′. Many adults can stand comfortably in 54″ of water, though a single listed depth does not prove the floor never changes. The floor profile, along with the exact step and seating layout, is confirmed from Sun Pools’ drawings during your consultation.

What the Ochos Rios Pool Is Not

The Ochos Rios is not a wide pool, and it will not feel like one. Families who want laps or side-by-side games should look at larger Sun Pools models.

What it is instead is the longer of the two 8′-wide pools Sun Pools lists. The Aruba shares the width but stops at 14′ with a 4′ depth. The Key West lists the same depth as the Ochos Rios, 4′ 6″, in a 9′ x 17′ shell, a foot wider and a foot shorter. If you want water that moves from shallower to deeper, the Caladesi at 10′ x 20′ and the Sanibel at 11′ x 23′ both list 3′ to 5′.

Why Sun Pools?

Sun Pools has made hand crafted pools from American made composite materials since 1995. Its shells are produced in Albany, Kentucky, at a plant the company describes as an EPA approved Title V facility using state of the art technology, and Sun Pools includes Ohio among the states it serves.

For a long, narrow shell, these are the construction points worth asking about:

  • Side-to-side critical point lamination: Rather than running bulk glass end to end or spraying chop glass, Sun Pools lays hand cut sheet fabric across the shell from side to side, a method it likens to high end yacht building.
  • Ribs and a reinforced coping: A modified epoxy skin-coat resin finishes the shell, and Sun Pools backs it with structural ribs and a reinforced coping along the top edge.
  • Self-supporting at delivery: Sun Pools says its lamination lets the shell carry itself, so no spreader bar or belly band is needed to lift it into place.

The color is one of 4 solid, high grade marine finishes with no clear coat, and Sun Pools says the floor and steps of its pools feature a non-skid textured bottom.

Why Fiberglass, and Why the Ochos Rios?

Concrete and vinyl both come with a long-term chore list. A concrete pool eventually needs acid washing or re-coating, and a vinyl liner eventually needs replacing. Sun Pools says its fiberglass surface needs neither, that the smooth interior won’t snag a swimsuit or skin and requires minimum chemical treatment, and that because each shell arrives on site finished, weeks of construction time drop out of the schedule.

The Ochos Rios makes its case with shape. Plenty of Northeast Ohio lots are deep and narrow, with a long strip between the house and the back fence or down one side. A wide pool fights that shape and swallows the lawn. An 8′ x 18′ pool runs with it, leaving room for a walkway, a row of loungers, or a garden bed alongside.

We are a family-owned, full-service builder with over 32 years in Northeast Ohio backyards, and we run the whole job ourselves: layout, excavation, shell placement, plumbing, electrical, and decking. During the build, FaceTime check-ins let you see the actual progress even on days you cannot be home.

After the pool is filled, we come back for pool school, two visits of hands-on training on your filtration, water chemistry, and seasonal care, so the first summer starts without guesswork.

Ochos Rios Pool FAQs

How deep is 54 inches in practice?

Fifty-four inches is four and a half feet, the single depth Sun Pools lists for the Ochos Rios. That is enough water to cool off completely, float, and sit low in the pool on a hot day. Because the listing gives one number rather than a floor profile, ask to see where the steps sit and how the floor is shaped on Sun Pools’ drawings at your consultation.

Will an 8' x 18' pool fit a narrow lot?

Often it fits where a wider pool cannot, but every lot is different. Property lines, local permitting requirements, existing structures, and access for delivering the shell all shape where a pool can go. We look at all of that on site before recommending a placement.

Should I choose the Ochos Rios or the Key West?

Both list 4′ 6″ of depth, since the Ochos Rios’s 54″ is the same figure. The difference is proportion. The Key West is 9′ x 17′, a foot wider and a foot shorter. The Ochos Rios is 8′ x 18′, narrower and longer. If your space is a long strip, the Ochos Rios usually suits it better. If it is closer to a square, the Key West may sit more naturally.

What should I ask about steps and seating?

Ask where the entry sits along the 18′ length, whether the design includes any in-water seating, and which end should face your patio or back door. The step and seating layout is confirmed from Sun Pools’ drawings during your consultation. Sun Pools does not list automatic cover compatibility on the Ochos Rios model page, so Ohio Paradise Pools confirms cover options with you during design.

How long does it take to install an Ochos Rios pool?

Most Ochos Rios installations take approximately 2 to 3 weeks, measured from excavation through shell placement, plumbing, electrical, and initial finishing. The shell ships from Sun Pools as a single finished piece. Your schedule still depends on permitting, site access, weather, and your decking scope. We manage every stage, send regular updates, and set up FaceTime walk-throughs when you are away, then finish with two pool school visits.

What warranty does the Ochos Rios pool carry?

The Ochos Rios shell carries Sun Pools’ Lifetime Structural Pool Shell Warranty, and the interior surface is covered for 3 years. The warranty is transferable within the first 36 months if the home changes hands. Coverage is governed by the Sun Pools Inc. Shell Warranty Certificate delivered with the pool, and it requires registration with the Sun Pools corporate office. Behind that sits a local installer with over 32 years in business and a BBB A+ rating, named Cleveland’s swimming pool contractor of the year in 2022, 2023, and 2024.

What does maintenance look like on the Ochos Rios?

Sun Pools describes its fiberglass interior as smooth enough that it won’t snag your swimsuit or skin, and says it requires minimum chemical treatment. There is no liner to replace down the road and no concrete finish to re-coat. Routine care comes down to checking the water balance, running the filter, and clearing debris, and the narrow shape keeps skimming and brushing within easy reach. Our two pool school visits walk you through each step.
